Apply for the Canada Student Grant: Students with Disabilities
Applying for the Canada Student Grant for Students with Disabilities
Available Grants
Accessibility Services can help you apply for two types of grants:
- Canada Student Grant for Students with Permanent Disabilities (CSG-PD)
- Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment for Students with Permanent Disabilities (CSG-PDSE)
These grants provide funds for disability-related supports, such as learning tools and technology, to help you succeed in your studies.
Who can Apply?
You may be eligible if you:
- Apply and qualify for full-time or part-time student financial aid (even if it’s just $1 of assessed needed).
- Have a permanent disability according to your provincial guidelines.
- Are enrolled in a full-time or part-time program at an approved post-secondary institution.
- Provide medical documentation confirming your permanent disability (check your province’s specific requirements).
Steps to Apply
- Contact a Student Financial Aid Advisor: Accessibilityservices@columbia.ca to apply for financial assistance.
- Submit Documentation: Send medical proof of your disability and, if needed, an AT assessment with cost estimates to Accessibility Services.
- Complete the Application: Follow the specific instructions for your province. This may include having your advisor and Accessibility Services complete parts of your application. (Schedule 4)
- Check Provincial Guidelines: The name and details of the grant may vary by province. Review your province’s student aid program for exact information.
- Get Approved: If your grant request is approved, you will receive funds to help with approved expenses. If not fully approved, contact your Provincial Student Loan office to find out what was accepted or denied.
- Purchase and Submit Receipts: Buy the equipment or services, keep the receipts, and submit them with any leftover funds to your funding agency. Failure to do so may affect your future funding.
